As human beings, we all know how good it feels to help others. Many faith traditions call on us to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and to spread kindness. How do we take this further and work to dismantle systems of oppression as a spiritual practice?
Join us for "Unity Unveiled: Embracing Social Justice as a Spiritual Practice," a transformative adult workshop designed to delve into the heart of this call to dismantle oppression, especially white supremacy. Join us on a thought-provoking journey as we explore topics crucial to fostering a more inclusive and just community. Through open dialogue and interactive sessions, we'll shine a light on privilege, unravel the complexities of racism, and dissect the influence of dominant culture on our perspectives. This workshop provides a safe and supportive space to reflect on our individual roles in social justice, encouraging each participant to examine their bias and commit to tangible anti-racist actions. Together, let's embark on a shared mission to create a more equitable and compassionate world. This workshop is being led by Lori McNally and Beth Manchester-Howell and can hold up to 20 participants. Workshops can be chosen after folks register for the conference. |
When we do the work of the congregation on committees, boards, or task forces, we are practicing our faith. Yet, we sometimes forget to bring our spiritual values, principles, and practices with us into lay leadership. During this workshop, we will explore practices that can keep us grounded and make lay leadership spiritually enriching and fulfilling.
This workshop is being led by Rev. Erica Baron, UUA Congregational Consultant, and can hold up to 30 participants. Workshops can be chosen after folks register for the conference. |
In this workshop, participants will look at WHY creativity is important to them and talk about what is standing in the way. (Time, space, money, etc.) We will also discuss how to prioritize creativity in your life, in whatever form that might take.
We will be giving ourselves time to create and then reflecting on how it feels to dedicate time to just play. I always joke that not many of us are going to make a living selling art so it doesn’t matter how our finished product looks- it’s so much more important to focus on how creating makes us feel! We will be working on projects that are inexpensive, easy to do, and don’t take up a ton of space, so hopefully, you will have some ideas to go home with! Most importantly, we will experience together a Community of Creativity. A place where we will be sharing thoughts and ideas while re-energizing and rediscovering our spirituality through art. This workshop is being led by Missy Schortmann Sorrenti and can hold up to 15 participants. Workshops can be chosen after folks register for the conference. |
